SWCA Environmental Consultants today announced that it has acquired Northwest Archaeological Associates based in Seattle, Washington.

Founded in 1987, NWAA is a leading provider of cultural resource management and preservation services in Washington State and the greater Northwest, conducting prehistoric and historical research, analysis, planning, and conservation. Staff archaeologists, geoarchaeologists, historic archaeologists, and architectural historians are experts in federal and state historic preservation legislation and Section 106 compliance.

This acquisition expands SWCA’s market presence in the Pacific Northwest and furthers the company’s position as one of the largest cultural resource service providers in the United States. The combined company will operate under the SWCA name and maintain NWAA's office in Seattle.

“We’re very excited to welcome NWAA into the SWCA family,” said Ron Borkan, Regional Vice President for the SWCA’s Pacific West region. “We’re also very pleased to bring our wide-ranging environmental expertise to clients in the Seattle market. NWAA has a cultivated a loyal following among customers in Washington state and beyond, and we will maintain that tradition of service.”

Christian Miss, NWAA’s former principal owner, who will remain with SWCA as office director in Seattle, adds, “While we will continue our focus on cultural resource management, joining SWCA will allow us to offer a much broader array of services. SWCA’s network of experts in natural resource and water resource services — along with the firm’s experience in environmental permitting and compliance — creates great opportunities to expand our customer base.”
