Kansas Historical Society & Kansas Anthropological Association
Project Director
Virginia Wulfkuhle & John Tomasic, Kansas Historical Society
Description
The KATP offers volunteers an opportunity to learn archeological concepts and methods through hands-on experience and classroom instruction under the supervision of professional archeologists. In June 2010 they can participate in salvage excavation of a well-preserved, multicomponent prehistoric site that is being threatened by river erosion in Montgomery County, Kansas. Professional and avocational archeologists will work together to recover as much data as possible from the site before a major portion is destroyed by a streambank stabilization project.
