Description  

This research is designed to fill major gaps in our knowledge about the type site for the Silvernale Phase. During the Phase, large villages in the Red Wing Locality were the scenes of interaction among people from across the midcontinent. Cultural influences include early Oneota, Plains Village, Middle Mississippian, and Late Woodland. We have active excavation trenches into possible houses and into undisturbed areas of the site, as well as into areas that may be

Costs / Living Conditions
Room and Board arrangements We will be camping in a wooded area on site during the week and returning home on the weekends. Participants must provide their own camping gear (tents, sleeping bags, bug spray, etc.) and food. Grocery stores and cheap restaurants are within 5 miles. No on-site shower facilities, but the YMCA is 8 miles away ($2/shower). There is a large, central fire pit for cooking - some cooking gear provided. Emergency shelter and services are minutes away.
