JOB SUMMARY: Sapphos Environmental, Inc., a growing environmental, planning, and resource management company located in Old Town Pasadena, is currently recruiting an Architectural Historian to join our expanding Cultural Resources Group at the Cultural Resources Coordinator or Senior Coordinator level. Under the supervision of the Cultural Resources Manager, this full-time, permanent position will entail project management, as well as fieldwork, archival research, site evaluation and recordation, and preparation of technical reports.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct historic resources surveys and assessments, including site inspections, research, photography, and evaluation under National Register of Historic Places, California Register of Historical Resources, and other criteria of significance.
- Prepare State of California Historic Resources Inventory forms, Historic Resources Technical Reports and Context Statements, and Environmental Impact Report/Statement sections relating to historic resources
- Analyze potential impacts to historic resources under the California Environmental Quality Act and other legislation
- Coordinate with Office of Historic Preservation and other government agencies
Project management, including client interaction, supervision of subconsultants, and mentoring of junior staff
- Actively participate in marketing outreach and development of cultural resources proposals, project budgets, and schedules
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS:
-Experience with Federal and California cultural resources management with a working command of federal and state cultural resources and historic preservation statutes and regulations
-Operational knowledge of the history and architectural history of Southern California
-Knowledge of and experience with application of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, preparation of Historic American Buildings Survey documentation, and use of CHRID highly desirable
-Demonstrated research, writing, and photographic abilities
-Ability to use computer hardware, software, and other related information technologies for extended periods on a daily basis
OTHER SKILLS: The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, have a professional demeanor and strong organizational skills, and possess the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and multitask in a fast-paced environment. The candidate should be able to work in a team environment with a variety of project members and manage tasks as delegated by project lead. The candidate must possess strong communication skills, the ability to work closely with clients, and be able to supervise the work of others.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate will have a BA/BS degree in Architectural History or closely related discipline (MA /MS is preferred), and will have a minimum of three years of experience.
