Basic Qualifications:
Must have a Bachelor Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or
related science. Must have supervisory experience or three or more years
experience managing an environmental compliance program or team of
environmental specialists at a utility, government or private consulting
firm.
Core Competencies:
- Demonstrated experience providing professional archaeological/historic
preservation services.
- Demonstrated experience applying state and federal historic preservation
laws and regulations and the various associated consultation and permitting
processes.
- Typically is qualified for certification or presently certified with
Register of Professional Archaeologists.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets.
- Demonstrated experience working with GIS applications.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results through others by providing
leadership and resource planning including prioritizing activities,
delegating and monitoring the progress of assignments, and holding
employees accountable for results.

selecting and developing employees to fill talent gaps.

Preferences:
- Master's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or related
science.
- Typically possesses five or more of years of archaeological/historical
resource experience working in the Southern California region.
- Academic or professional coursework in management and leadership
strategies and methods.
Typical Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will manage technical specialists-archaeologists
in the Biological and Archaeological Resources (BAR) Group. Typical
responsibilities will include: making work prioritization and assignment
decisions and work product evaluations to ensure balanced work assignments
across staff resources and assignment to most qualified individuals;
supporting staff with consultant procurement issues, client organization
interface, regulatory agency relationship and interface issues, and
management chain communications; consulting and advising Operations Support
(OS)/Environment Health and Safety (EH&S) management chain and peer
managers on historic preservation issues; preparing Performance Development
Plans (PDPs) and evaluating employee performance; recruiting, hiring and
training additional archaeologists to fill existing vacancies and future
new positions; participating in Group/Division salary and budget planning,
client organization budget discussions, and GRC input; collaborating with
EH&S peer managers, OS/EH&S management chain, and client managers to
implement strategic and tactical plans, ensuring quality communication
across the enterprise, and maximizing group, Division, Department, and
client effectiveness and productivity; collaborating with peer managers in
EH&S to ensure coordination of interdisciplinary environmental technical
support on capital and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) projects as well as
compliance and training; collaborating with BAR Group manager ensure
archaeologists and biologists work cooperatively on common projects, both
capital and O&M; establishing and maintaining excellent working
relationships with peer managers, business clients, and regulatory agencies
(SHPO, ACHP, USFS, BLM, etc.); using GIS applications for planning, siting,
and compliance work; providing close direction or oversight of work
performed and desired results; selecting staff and managing employee
performance and development by conducting performance planning and reviews,
coaching employees, and carrying out disciplinary action when necessary;
recommending and/or approving departmental policies and procedures and
assisting in the development of department policies and procedures;
developing business plans, objectives, and initiatives for the organization
in alignment with business strategy and customer requirements; assisting in
the development of initiatives for corporate strategic plans and
objectives; and performing other duties and responsibilities as requested.
