October is California Archaeology Month! The San Diego Archaeological Center is celebrating 10,000 years of history by offering a free logo gift for first-time visitors to the Center in October.
"
San Diego County residents and visitors will find a fun, educational and hands-on experience at the Center. Award-winning exhibits featuring real artifacts demonstrate the region’s past and the cultural diversity that makes San Diego a unique and dynamic place to live.
The Center was the first nonprofit organization in the nation dedicated solely to curating and sharing archaeological collections with the public. The Center provides internships and research opportunities for the advancement of knowledge in the fields of anthropology and archaeology.
Volunteers are needed for the education program “Project Archaeology,” which brings the science of archaeology to students of all ages both in the Center’s culture classroom and at numerous community events. Students, retired individuals and families can volunteer to work with archaeological collections; it is just like doing archaeology without the dirt!
The Center is located in the historic San Pasqual Valley and is open during regular operating hours Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and every Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
For more information on Center events, please contact Annemarie Cox at acox@sandiegoarchaeology.org or (760) 291-0370. "
